The Cap Envol project

Since 2019, CAP ENVOL has been a European gathering of glider pilots, disabled and able-bodied, who aim to facilitate the deployment of glider piloting for people with motor disabilities.

How to participate in Cap Envol 2024:

For who ?

Whether you are a glider pilot with a lower limb disability, an able-bodied instructor or a club leader with a disabled glider project.

  • if you like to fly in the mountains,

  • if you want to share your experience of setting up a handiglider activity,

  • if you want to set up a handiglider activity in your club,

CAP ENVOL is the place to be to learn and share everything related to glider flying for pilots with disabilities.

This year, we will be setting up an additional training module for able-bodied instructors who wish to be able to welcome and train people with disabilities.

Where and when ?

Cap Envol 2024 will take place in Barcelonnette from June 22 to 29, 2024.

Flight and accommodation conditions

Cap Envol is open to disabled student pilots and pilots, disabled or able-bodied instructors, able to fly people with disabilities. Only valid instructors authorized by the organizers will be able to fly as part of the course during the period.

There are no plans for a single-seater flight with a handlebar.

You must hold an annual FFVP license. Foreign trainees will take out a short-term FFVP license (at the trainee's expense).

Trainees with disabilities will need to subscribe to an FF Handisport license (supported by the organization).

People who do not have one or the other of these licenses will be able to subscribe upon their arrival at the course.

The flights will take place on DuoDiscus with a lever.

The basic price per flight hour for the DuoDiscus is 40 euros. Thanks to our institutional partners, the price per hour will be reduced. The final price per hour will be recalculated on site depending on the number of trainees.

The cost of a tow is subject to change due to the extreme variability of oil prices. As an indication, the average price of a tow was 53 euros for Cap Envol 2021.

Why CAP ENVOL ?

Gliding is one of the rare activities that is accessible to both disabled and able-bodied people.

“In flight, nothing distinguishes a disabled pilot from an able-bodied pilot.”

(Jean-Emile Rouaux, president of the French glider flight federation, 2010).

The feedback and methods that we share in the CAP ENVOL gatherings allow other people to access the third dimension. This activity helps to re-socialize people who have become disabled following an accident.

Glider flight allows the sharing of experiences. Those who have gone through this ordeal tell newcomers about their journey, and that life continues differently, sometimes with even more passion and desire than before the accident.

Flying, whether as a pilot or a passenger, brings self-confidence.

A strong idea: give everyone the same chance to advance in life!

A European gathering

Since the start of CAP ENVOL, we have welcomed Belgian and Spanish pilots. The latter are very active with their association Las Sillas Voladoras.

CAP ENVOL is the moment when all these players in handiglider flight come together to exchange know-how in terms of organization, communication and financing.
